AgNet Password Reset

As of April 30, 2021, AgNet passwords are reset through Microsoft.

New User- First Sign On

Step 1

Log into https://portal.office.com by entering your full username (first.last@agnet.tamu.edu) and password

Step 2

If you have not yet configured your authentication methods for password reset, you will be asked to do so

Click on Next

Step 3- Set up your Authentication Method

You can choose between multiple authentication methods- Microsoft Authenticator app is just the default option for initial setup

If you want to use the Microsoft Authenticator App, click Next

Continue on to Step 4

If you want to add

  • a different authenticator app click on “I want to use a different authenticator app” to see the QR code that your preferred authenticator app can use to connect to your account
  • text messaging, phone calls, or a backup email address, click on “I want to set up a different method” and follow the on screen instructions

You can choose to skip this setup for now, but your will not be able to change your password until you have added at least 1 authentication method

Install & Configure Microsoft Authenticator

Step 4

Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from your app store

Open the app

Click on the + in the top right corner of your screen, or click on Add account

Select either “School or Work Account” or “Other account

on your mobile device

On your computer screen, click Next

Select “Scan a QR Code”

Scan the QR code add your account

Use the password provided by the app to complete your setup and sign in

Where do I use my AgNet ID & Password?

Resetting your password will reset the password for all of the applications below

Your AgNet password is used for the following applications:

  1. your AgriLife email
  2. your computer login (only applies to computers on the AgNet domain or Azure and on Windows 10)
  3. Microsoft Teams
  4. your Office 365 license
  5. TexasData
  6. Laserfiche
  7. WordPress
  8. County Holidays
  9. SSO (only applies if you use your AgNet ID to log in- does not apply if you use your UIN or TAMU Net ID)

Password Requirements

AgriLife IT updated our Password Policy on April 23, 2021 to conform to current industry guidelines.

AgNet Passwords must:

  • be at least 12 characters long
  • contain at least 3 different types of the characters below:
    1. Upper case letter (A,B,C,D,E)
    2. Lower case letter (a,b,c,d,e)
    3. Number (1,2,3,4,5)
    4. Symbol (!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;”‘<>,.?/)
  • not be a recently used password
  • not be a single dictionary word
    • can be a combination of 2 or more words
  • not contain your name
  • not contain common Aggie words
    • aggie, whoop, hullabaloo, bonfire, reveille, etc.
  • not contain common words like “password”

Password Age & History

  • Maximum Password age is 730 days
    • Passwords must be changed every 730 days (2 years)
  • Minimum password age is 24 hours
    • Passwords can only be changed once in a 24-hour period
  • Password History is set to 4
    • You cannot use any of the previous 4 passwords you have used when resetting your password

Your password should also follow these guidelines:

DO use:

  • a passphrase (phrase or series of words) rather than random characters to make your password easy to remember
  • abbreviations and replace letters with number and symbols to prevent brute force hacks from guessing your password
    • Example: “h@ng Ur ha7” instead of “Hang your hat7”

Do NOT use:

  • your birthday
  • pet’s name
  • license plate
  • any other word or number easily associated with you
  • the same password for multiple accounts
    • using different passwords means if your password is compromised on 1 website, your other accounts will still be secure

Change your password if it has not expired

Step 1

Click here

Sign in with your firstname.lastname@agNET.tamu.edu

Step 2

Enter your current AgNet password

Step 3

Click No or Yes to staying signed in

Step 4

Enter your old password in the Old Password field

Enter your new password in the Create a new password field

Enter your new password in the Confirm new password field

Step 5

Once you have been redirected to your Profile screen, you have successfully reset your password

From the Office 365 Portal

Step 1- Log In

Log into https://portal.office.com with your firstname.lastname@agNET.tamu.edu and your current AgNet password

Step 2- Settings Gear

Click on the Settings Gear in the top right of your window

Click on Change your password under Password

Step 3- Change Password Screen

Enter your old password in the Old Password field

Enter your new password in the Create new password and Confirm new password fields

Step 4- Verify your new password

Enter your new password to log back in

Reset your password if you have forgotten it or it has already expired

Step 1

Click here

Enter your username as firstname.lastname@agnet.tamu.edu

Enter the characters provided

Click Next

Step 2

Select I forgot my password

Choose I know my password, but still can’t sign in if your account has been locked

Click Next

Step 3

Select your verification method from the left side of your screen

  • Email my alternate email and Text my mobile phone will send a verification code that you will need to type in on the next screen
  • Call my mobile phone and Call my office phone will call your phone and ask you to press a number on your phone’s keypad

Enter the information for your method (email address or phone number)

Click Email/Text/Email (will be based on the method you chose for verification)

Step 4

Enter your verification number if you chose Email or Text

Click Next

Step 5

Enter your new password in the Enter new password and Confirm new password fields

Step 6

Once you see this screen and receive your Password reset notification in your email, you will have successfully reset your password
