What is eduroam?
Eduroam (“education roaming”) is a secure, worldwide WiFi service available at thousands of universities and research institutions.
AgriLife employees can use eduroam when visiting Texas A&M University campus locations that broadcast the network.
Eduroam allows AgriLife users to sign in using their AgNet credentials:
Username format:
firstname.lastname@agnet.tamu.edu
Password:
Your AgriLife AgNet ID password
Who Can Use Eduroam?
Eduroam access is available to the following groups:
- Texas A&M AgriLife Extension employees
- Texas A&M AgriLife Research employees
- College of Agriculture & Life Sciences employees
- TVMDL employees
Contractors, temporary workers, and non‑AgriLife users are not eligible unless they have an active AgNet ID.
Policy
1. Acceptable Use
By connecting to eduroam, AgriLife employees agree to comply with:
- AgriLife IT security and acceptable‑use policies
- Texas A&M University System policies
- State of Texas security requirements (TAC 202)
- Eduroam federation rules for responsible network use
Eduroam must be used for authorized work‑related activity and general secure internet access. Illegal activity, network abuse, and attempts to bypass security controls are prohibited.
2. Authentication Requirements
AgriLife employees must log in using:
- Login: firstname.lastname@agnet.tamu.edu
- Password: AgriLife AgNet ID password
Passwords must not be shared with others or stored insecurely on public/shared devices.
3. Device Security Requirements
To maintain secure access to eduroam, devices connecting to the network must meet the following expectations:
AgriLife‑managed devices
- Must comply with AgriLife IT security standards
- Should be encrypted per AgriLife policy
- Must have current OS and security updates installed
- Must have endpoint protection enabled
Personally owned (BYOD) devices
Personal devices may connect to eduroam while on TAMU campus as long as they meet these requirements:
- Device must be fully updated
- Device must support WPA2‑Enterprise authentication
- AgNet credentials must not be stored on shared or non‑secure devices
- User is responsible for ensuring the device does not compromise AgriLife security
AgriLife IT does not provide extensive troubleshooting for personally owned devices beyond basic guidance.
4. Where AgriLife Employees Can Use Eduroam
Eduroam is available to AgriLife personnel only when physically present on Texas A&M University campus facilities or other eduroam‑participating institutions.
AgriLife Centers, District Offices, and Research Stations do not broadcast eduroam.
5. Privacy & Security
Eduroam traffic is encrypted using WPA2‑Enterprise authentication.
However, users are responsible for following AgriLife security standards, including:
- Avoiding access to sensitive data on unmanaged devices
- Keeping credentials private
- Installing security updates regularly
