The new policy will require:
- a minimum of 12 characters
- complexity of at least three types of characters (i.e. alpha, numeric, and special characters)
We recommend that you include in your password 4 types of characters:
- lowercase letter
- uppercase letter
- number
- special character
Examples of complex passwords that adhere to the new policy include:
- !phL3405QX$7af
- B_dopwmh67$1a
Longer passwords (passphrases) with a theme are encouraged and easier to remember.
Examples of passwords with a theme include:
- UsetheF0rceLuke!
- WhereNoManH@sGoneB4
- Iworkw!thCowsButNotG0@ts
New Password Requirements
- Must be at least 12 and not more than 128 characters
- Must contain at least 1 uppercase letter
- Must contain at least 1 lowercase letter
- Must contain at least 1 non-alpha character. This can be numeric or a special character
- Special characters include: !@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;”‘<>,.?/)
- Must NOT contain Aggie culture words like (but not limited to): aggie, whoop, hullabaloo, bonfire, reveille, etc.
- Must NOT be recently used
- Must NOT contain a single dictionary word
- Two or more can be used
Remember the following guidelines:
- Do not use a password that is the same or similar to one you use on any other websites
- Make passwords hard to guess, even by those who know a lot about you, such as the names and birthdays of your friends and family, your favorite bands, and phrases you like to use
Password Age & History
- Maximum Password age is 730 days
- Passwords must be changed every 730 days (2 years)
- Minimum password age is 24 hours
- Passwords can only be changed once in a 24-hour period
- Password History is set to 4
- You cannot use any of the previous 4 passwords you have used when resetting your password
